Sunset Scales with Supabase Expertise on Hand

Financial discovery tool, Sunset, helps grieving families with asset and account collation for the deceased. However, for Sunset to scale its app post-MVP, it needed in-depth Supabase expertise that would allow it to expand its mission.

Losing a loved one is a tragedy, however, with that loss often comes an administrative burden that makes the grieving process even harder to navigate. Finding, collating, and closing financial accounts and assets can take months - or even years. That’s why founders, Stephen Walter and Kaela Worthen, founded Sunset in 2024.

The free-to-use Sunset app automatically allows families to identify bank accounts, stocks, bonds, investment accounts - and more - without having to contact their banks or insurance providers.

The solution: Supabase experts on hand

To advance their application, Sunset needed experts who could build out the backend of their MVP with advanced Supabase expertise. This is where Morrow initially came in, thanks to our experience with Supabase, our Supabase partnership status, and our proven track record of delivering Supabase projects at an industry-leading standard.

Once their MVP was bolstered, Sunset successfully closed out a pre-seed investment round and secured acceptance into YCombinator. This triggered phase two - a complete rebuild of Sunset’s backend platform from scratch.

Why Morrow?

We’re one of the oldest Supabase partners in the world and one of the earliest adopters of the infrastructure. We understand every nook and cranny of the system - and most importantly - we know how to ensure our clients are maximising the impact of Supabase.

That’s why we’ve become the industry go-to for complete Supabase project builds, ongoing support, and migrations.

Easy-to-main, intuitive to use, and designed to sustainably scale

We worked with the Sunset team to bring their vision to life, with a deep dive into the backend within Supabase. As part of this process, Morrow equipped Sunset with a Supabase expert who could work alongside their in-house engineers. This saved Sunset the cost of a full-time hire while ensuring they had the advanced technical knowledge to hit the ground running.

This work has allowed Sunset to sustainably scale its platform, with the ability to scale up or down technical resources as needed. And, thanks to the build, ongoing maintenance of the app is far more intuitive than if they had built their own infrastructure or used AWS.

The horizon ahead for Sunset

Armed with in-depth Supabase expertise, Sunset has successfully rolled out its new and improved platform. To date, the business has transferred more than $500M to its customers - a figure which is only set to increase.

With a stable app built to last, the Sunset team are now equipped to maintain their product in-house and ease the administrative burden of grieving families - long into the future.
